We are a Disabled People's User Led Organisation and registered charity entering a period of organisational change and renewal. This is a crucial time to bring new voices, skills, and perspectives to our Board to help shape our future. Lived experience welcome, but not essential.
What difference will you have? Disability Sheffield is entering a period of organisational change and renewal. This is a crucial time to bring new voices, skills, and perspectives to our Board of Trustees to help shape the future of the charity.
Our services include:
- Advocacy Service (member of Sheffield Advocacy Hub)
- Sheffield Voices self‑advocacy group for people with learning disabilities and autism
- Specialist information service
- Disabled people’s cycling group
- Disabled people’s travel service
We also work closely with other user‑led organisations and funders such as the NHS, Sheffield City Council, Sheffield University, and Sheffield Hallam University to promote disabled people’s rights.
At this crucial time of renewal for our organisation, new Trustees have a real opportunity to make a tangible impact on the work of a well‑known local charity.
What are we looking for? We are excited to receive applications from anyone with a desire to see their work lead to real change. Being a Disabled People's User Led Organisation we understand how useful lived experience can be when working to improve the lives of disabled people; however we are happy to accept applications from anyone who believes their skills and experience could support the organisation through our period of change and renewal.

Would you like to use some of your spare time to make a real difference to the lives of disabled people in Sheffield?
We are a Disabled People’s user‑led organisation (DPULO), and registered charity, established by disabled people to empower disabled people to have an equal voice in all aspects of their lives.
We're recruiting for General Trustees
Lived experience welcome, but not essential. Bring your knowledge and/or experience of living with a disability or long‑term health condition to contribute to the successful operation of our board and our charity.
Board members are responsible for planning for the future of Disability Sheffield. They are ultimately responsible for ensuring the finances, staff and volunteers and the material resources required to carry out that plan are available and effectively deployed. They do this through attending and contributing to Board meetings, and as active members of any sub‑committees or working groups that exist. Along with others, Board members represent Disability Sheffield in the city and beyond.
