Head of Engineering

📍 Sheffield or London (Hybrid – 3 days onsite)

We’re partnering with a well-established global Ed Tech business that supports thousands of schools worldwide with software powering safeguarding, compliance, staff and pupil management, and wider school operations. With a large international educator community and long-standing market presence, they’re scaling their technology capability to support the next phase of growth.

They’re now hiring a Head of Software Engineering to lead multiple engineering squads and deliver key roadmap initiatives across a broad product ecosystem.

Reporting to the VP of Engineering, you’ll:

• Lead and develop engineering managers and multiple squads
• Own delivery of strategic roadmap initiatives – on time, secure, and high quality
• Drive architectural decision‑making (SOLID, design patterns, cloud‑first thinking)
• Partner cross‑functionally with Product, Design, Sales and Finance
• Improve ways of working through Agile, automation, and continuous improvement

• 7+ years’ experience in software engineering, with 5+ in senior leadership
• Strong technical background across modern architectures (cloud‑native, polyglot environments)
• Proven track record delivering complex software at scale
  
  Experienced people leader who builds high‑performing, accountable teams
• Pragmatic, commercially aware, and able to influence senior stakeholders
