Job Description & How to Apply Below

The Mulberry Club is a new private members’ house opening in Sheffield’s Arts Quarter in Spring.

Set within a Grade II listed building on George Street, the Club has been created as a place centred around conversation, dining, wine and refined hospitality. Members will enjoy breakfast, brunch and evening service, a carefully curated wine programme, private rooms and a calendar of cultural and social events throughout the year.

We are now seeking an exceptional General Manager to lead the House from its opening and help establish The Mulberry Club as one of the city’s most distinctive hospitality destinations.

This is a rare opportunity to shape a venue from the very beginning and play a defining role in setting its culture, service standards and reputation.

The Role

The General Manager will be responsible for the overall leadership and smooth operation of the Club.

This role is focused not simply on operations, but on creating and protecting the atmosphere, culture and member experience that defines a true private members’ house.

You will lead the team, guide service standards, support the development of staff and ensure every interaction with members reflects the Club’s values of discretion, quality and attention to detail.

The position is five days per week, approximately with evenings and weekends forming an important part of the schedule.

Key Responsibilities House Leadership
  • Oversee the day-to-day running of the Club across all areas of service.
  • Lead and inspire the team to deliver exceptional hospitality at all times.
  • Establish and maintain the culture, tone and standards expected within a private members’ environment.
Member Experience
  • Ensure every member visit feels personal, polished and memorable.
  • Build relationships with members and understand their preferences.
  • Manage guest relations and resolve any issues discreetly and professionally.
Team Development
  • Recruit, train and develop the front-of-house team.
  • Work alongside senior staff to ensure service knowledge and standards are consistently high.
  • Foster a positive, supportive and motivated working environment.
Service & Operations
  • Oversee breakfast, brunch and evening service across the House.
  • Maintain high standards of service, presentation and timing.
  • Ensure operational systems run smoothly including reservations, house accounts and member communications.
Wine & Hospitality Culture
  • Work closely with the Club’s sommelier and kitchen to maintain a thoughtful and refined dining experience.
  • Support wine service, events and member tastings where appropriate.
Events & Club Life
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of member events, tastings and special evenings.
  • Help shape the social rhythm of the Club throughout the year.
Standards & Atmosphere
  • Ensure the Club always feels calm, elegant and welcoming.
  • Maintain attention to detail across service, presentation and environment.
Ideal Candidate

We are looking for someone who understands that running a private members’ club is different from running a restaurant.

The right person will bring:

  • Significant experience in high-end hospitality, restaurants, hotels or members’ clubs
  • A natural ability to build relationships with guests and members
  • Strong leadership and team development skills
  • A deep understanding of service standards and hospitality culture
  • Calm, confident presence on the floor
  • A passion for wine, food and refined hospitality
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

Above all, we are looking for someone who understands that the role is about creating an atmosphere and experience, not simply managing a venue.

The Opportunity

Joining The Mulberry Club at this stage offers the chance to help shape something truly special from the ground up.

The successful candidate will play a defining role in the early life of the Club and help establish a venue that we believe will become an important part of Sheffield’s hospitality landscape.
