Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust manages five adult hospitals and many Community Health Services in Sheffield. Contract:
Permanent, full‑time – 37.5 hours per week (Monday to Friday).
Salary: £46,148 – £52,809 per annum (pro‑rated for part‑time). Grade: NHS AfC Band 7.

Education And Qualifications- Registered nurse with current NMC registration
- Nursing degree
- Demonstrable or working towards relevant postgraduate level study (HEI level 7 or MSc)
- Teaching, assessment, and mentoring qualification
- Experience of working at Band 6 level or significant Experience at Band 5 level
- Willingness and ability to present training and education to groups of staff trust-wide
- Up‑to‑date experience of safe blood transfusion
- Ability to communicate with a diverse range of people including external partners (excellent interpersonal skills)
- Excellent written, verbal and IT communication skills
- Ability to interpret and utilise information effectively
- Experience of participating in clinical audit
- Awareness and understanding of current national and local blood transfusion policy and guidance
- Have experience of working in an acute hospital setting
- Experience of caring for and managing patients undergoing blood transfusion
- Knowledge of the key professional issues and guidelines relating to professional practice
- Evidence of being able to work across organisational boundaries
- Understanding of appropriate health and safety legislation
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant national strategy / policy and how this relates to the service
- Strong organisational skills with ability to meet deadlines
- Evidence of ongoing continuous professional development
- Experience of applying research evidence to clinical practice
- Awareness of blood transfusion policies and initiatives; knowledge of BSQR 2005, NHSLA Standards, SHOT, MHRA, NICE and BSH guidelines

The Transfusion Practitioner will promote safe and appropriate transfusion practice across the Trust and serve as a key member of the Hospital Transfusion Team and Group. They will educate nursing, medical, and multi‑disciplinary staff on managing patients receiving blood or blood product transfusions, ensuring compliance with BSQR 2005 and British Society of Haematology guidelines as well as local policies.
Key duties include:
- Work as an autonomous practitioner providing a safe transfusion service.
- Provide expert advice to staff, patients, and carers on transfusion‑related issues.
- Promote safe, effective blood use and alternatives aligned with NICE recommendations while monitoring compliance with regulatory standards.
- Carry out investigations into transfusion incidents and create reports based on interviews and root‑cause analysis.
