DXA Technologist Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Metabolic Bone Centre team located at the Northern General Hospital. The Metabolic Bone Centre provides a high-quality diagnostic service, including densitometry and Vertebral Fracture Assessment imaging, and sees approximately 13,500 patients per year. A Fracture Risk Assessment Service (FRAS) runs alongside specialised consultant-led metabolic bone clinics providing outpatient and day case services to the population of Sheffield and surrounding districts.

We are looking for a part‑time (30 hours) Bone Densitometry (DEXA) Scanning Technologist to join our small team of dedicated scan technologists.

The role requires a science or health‑related qualification at degree level and motivation to work in a healthcare environment. The successful candidate will form part of the current scanning team, performing Bone Density scans and requesting procedures according to the relevant departmental protocols.

Person specification Qualifications
  • Science or health‑related degree or equivalent academic achievement
  • Registration with an appropriate Professional Body
  • ROS IR(ME)
    R certification for operators / referrers or equivalent training in radiation protection
  • Royal Osteoporosis Society Certificate of Competency in Bone Densitometry
Experience
  • Motivation to work in a healthcare environment
  • Experience of working in a Metabolic Bone Centre
  • Knowledge of current health and safety regulations
  • Previous experience in a healthcare environment
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • Flexibility and ability to prioritise
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Awareness of confidentiality
