We are looking for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to join our Sheffield Speech and Language Therapy (SLT) Service. The post is 37.5 hours per week on a permanent contract.
Location:
Sheffield Teaching Hospitals SLT service across Northern General, Royal Hallamshire and Weston Park.
- Provide clinical speech and language therapy services to a defined specialised caseload of adult patients as part of the acute ward SLT team.
- Specialise in the assessment and management of communication disorders and dysphagia.
- Work efficiently as part of the team to ensure timely and effective intervention for eating, drinking, swallowing and communication disorders.
- Contribute to seamless continuity of care for patients seen across speech and language therapy pathways.

The SLT service covers acute and community SLT for adults in Sheffield. It is a large service with 66 members of the team (51.94 WTE) including SLTs, SLT assistants and admin support. The teams are highly motivated to provide a quality service, are research active, embrace innovation, and have established processes for supervision and support personal and professional development.
Qualifications- Dysphagia experience/accreditation, including management of complex dysphagia.
- Qualified to work to specialist level on dysphagia competency scale.
- Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and Health and Care Professions Council.
- Evidence of continuing professional development.
- Extensive post-graduate experience or equivalent.
- Experience up to or at a Band 6 level.
- Experience in working with adults in an acute hospital setting with communication and swallowing difficulties resulting from a wide range of acquired neurological conditions.
- Experience of working with relatives and carers.
- Evidence of multi-disciplinary team working.
- Involvement in development and delivery of training packages.
- Competent in use of IT for everyday communication.
- Good time management and organisational skills.
- Good presentation skills - oral and written.
- Awareness of the principles of clinical governance, audit and required standards of record keeping.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially in relation to liaison and joint working.
- Evidence of ability to manage specialist and complex caseload independently.
- Knowledge of the NHS and understanding of the roles of other professions.
- Evidence of developing negotiation skills and management of conflict.

- Flexible approach to working practices.
- Commitment to person centred planning and carer involvement in service delivery and development.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions for relevant client groups.
- Knowledge of national policies and legislation relevant to client group, and the local implementation of these.
- Knowledge of professional and clinical guidelines relevant to the client group.
- Knowledge of supported communication techniques, use of talking mats, life story books / communication passports.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
