Overview
We are recruiting for a non-graduate trainee tax assistant to join UHY Hacker Young's Sheffield office. The role focuses on personal and corporate tax compliance. You ll study ATT via an apprenticeship alongside hands-on training.
Responsibilities- Assisting with the preparation of personal and corporate tax returns
- Gathering and reviewing client information to support tax compliance work
- Maintaining accurate tax records and filing documentation
- Supporting senior staff with basic tax computations and calculations
- Researching straightforward tax queries under supervision
- Liaising with clients to request information and clarify details
- Using tax software and Excel to input and analyse data
- Supporting deadlines and statutory filing requirements
- Developing knowledge of UK tax legislation through study and practical work
- Studying towards a relevant tax qualification alongside on-the-job training
- Collating, analysing, and using financial information to support evidence-based, sustainable tax decisions for stakeholders, such as individuals and businesses
- Undertaking taxation activities within the scope and limits of the role and tax specialism, escalating issues to more senior colleagues where appropriate
- Applying relevant principles and legislation to ensure records are compliant
- Applying professional scepticism when undertaking taxation activities
- Interpreting information for tax purposes to determine the correct reporting of transactions or items of income or expenditure
- Participating in or supporting quality improvement activities
- Using software packages to assist with taxation tasks in line with cyber and data security requirements
- Delivering taxation tasks with a critical eye to trends
- Using workload management principles to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks and manage time effectively
- Using taxation information to add value to stakeholders through data visualisations, analysis, and interpretation
- Undertaking file management activities, such as preparing and collating information, making accurate file notes and managing version control
- Building and maintaining collaborative, professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders, recognising the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion
- Communicating taxation information through different media to facilitate stakeholder understanding

During your contract, you will initially study towards the ATT qualification. You will be enrolled on classroom tuition at First Intuition to complete the ATT under an apprenticeship programme. The apprenticeship can be adjusted to reflect what you already know.
Benefits- £19,000 a year
- Check minimum wage rates (link) + Auto-enrolled pension scheme from age 22 + Commission for introducing new clients/work or for introducing new staff + 23 days holiday (rising to 26 days in line with service)
- Hours:
Monday - Thursday 09:00 - 17:15. Friday 09:00 - 17:00. 36 hours a week - Start date:
Monday 2 March 2026 - Duration: 1 year 3 months
