Join a specialist infrastructure engineering company and help deliver innovative mechanical solutions for major projects.
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to join a dynamic team, producing practical and efficient designs for bespoke mechanical and structural applications used across the infrastructure sector.
Responsibilities- Take ownership of designs from concept through to installation, ensuring they are robust, manufacturable, and compliant with relevant standards. This is a hands‑on engineering role with a strong emphasis on hand calculations, fabrication awareness, and close collaboration with workshop and site teams.
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies from cradle to grave.
- Perform hand calculations (stress, bolted & welded joints, load assessments) to validate designs.
- Produce and review technical drawings and 3D models using CAD (Solid Works, Inventor, AutoCAD).
- Liaise with fabrication teams to ensure designs are practical and weldable.
- Apply relevant BS, EN, Eurocode, and ISO standards.
- Provide technical support to project managers, fabricators, and installation teams.
- Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering.
- Proven experience in mechanical design engineering.
- Strong competence in manual hand calculations.
- Solid understanding of welding principles and fabrication processes.
- Proficient in CAD (Solid Works preferred).
- Good knowledge of materials, tolerancing, and manufacturing methods.
- Detail-oriented with excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Experience in infrastructure or construction engineering.
- Familiarity with FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Solid Works Simulation).
- 5+ years' experience in an engineering environment.
