As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer with a strong interest in manufacturing, you will be able to make an immediate impact and quickly operate effectively within the role, joining a rapidly growing global leader in subsea technology, supporting design projects in manufacturing, offshore energy, and high-pressure subsea technology sectors worldwide.

In this role, you will complement established in-house design and manufacturing expertise, developing innovative engineering solutions for extreme operating environments across global markets. As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will lead complex engineering projects, mentor junior engineers, and ensure that high-quality designs meet customer requirements.

Remote working is available following an initial induction period. During the early stages, you will be required to work closely with the business, including time spent at the South East head office to support onboarding and integration into the team but then would work REMOTE from Bristol.

• Lead the design of subsea technology combining functions such as breathing gases, fluids, electrical power, communication, hydraulics, and pneumatics, for seismic, defence, subsea technology (e.g., Diving)
• Select and size functional components (hoses, cables, optical fibres), and determine lay-up, insulation and jacket materials, braiding, armouring, and overall umbilical configuration to meet customer specifications, industry standards, and in-house requirements.
• Write test specifications and qualification procedures for the umbilical under scenarios such as tension, torsion, compression, and cyclic bending, when required.
• Provide technical support to production teams during manufacturing to ensure quality and conformity to design.
• Investigate and resolve cable-related field failures or performance issues, implementing robust design improvements.

• Bachelor's or higher degree in engineering, physics, or mathematics, or similar
• Experienced senior engineering designer using 2D CAD or 3
  
  DCAD / and /or solidworks
• Strong understanding of subsea technology, including seismic energy, renewable, and marine/diving applications in high-pressure environments.
• Sound knowledge of electrical theory (voltage stress, resistance, voltage drop, current rating, and heating effects), hydraulics/pneumatics (pressure drop, fluid mechanics), and mechanical engineering (materials, stress/strain, fatigue).
• Understanding of electrical cable design and construction, including cable geometry, helix angles, lay-lengths, and copper specifications.
• Proficient in 2D CAD software (preferably AutoCAD); proficiency in 3D CAD (Solid Works) advantageous.
• Preferred:
  Exposure to ISO 9001 quality systems and experience in corrective action resolution.
• Experience with engineering documentation control systems (Solid Works EPDM advantageous).
