About the role:

We are recruiting for an assistant heritage consultant to join our established heritage team. The role will provide someone with the opportunity to start a career in heritage consultancy, contributing to Desk-Based Assessments, Heritage Statements and multi-disciplinary consultancy documents for a wide range of projects.

Based in our head office in Sheffield, the role offers an exciting opportunity for the successful candidate to develop and their expertise within a company that values high professional standards. They will be working within our dedicated heritage team who work alongside our specialist geophysics and fieldwork teams.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of, and report to, our Principal Heritage Consultant, who will provide continual support and guidance. The post-holder will be responsible for supporting team members in producing heritage assessments, with a view to moving on to completing their own reports. Duties will include desk-based research, data analysis and collaboration with other disciplines. Candidates should expect to work in a range of different outdoor and indoor environments, including conducting site visits sometimes to remote locations.

Candidates will be expected to have knowledge of the historic environment and demonstrable skills in assessment and report writing. A knowledge of historic buildings and landscapes, as well as an understanding of heritage setting is desirable.

Essential Skills and Experience
  • Relevant degree in a heritage related subject
  • Proven report writing skills
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, or working towards membership
  • Knowledge of national legislation and planning policy in respect to the historic environment and related professional standards and guidance
  • A keenness to learn and aspirations for career progression
  • Experience in the use of GIS would be advantageous
  • Self-motivated with ability to multi-task and work proactively and flexibly in support of changing workloads
  • Full driving licence and willingness to drive
  • Ability to work away from home
