The Service Manager will lead and deliver technical services across heat networks nationwide, ensuring compliance with industry regulations, high‑quality installations, commissioning, fault resolution, and aftercare support for HIUs, metering, and billing systems. The role is field‑based with nationwide travel and requires flexibility outside of standard office hours. The Technical Manager will also build and lead a technical team, manage subcontractor relationships, oversee warehouse operations, and support regulatory audits, ensuring systems operate efficiently and in line with company objectives.
Key Responsibilities Technical Delivery- Conduct site surveys for HIUs, metering, billing, energy efficiency, and compliance assessments
- Install and commission metering systems (AMR, data loggers, gateways, routers, M‑Bus networks)
- Carry out technical fault finding, diagnostics, and system optimisation
- Support contractors with HIU installation and commissioning, ensuring compliance with standards
- Manage warranty claims and provide technical resolution, liaising with manufacturers and clients
- Create clear technical reports, O&M documentation, commissioning records, and compliance evidence
- Ensure all work complies with the Heat Network (Metering and Billing) Regulations 2014 (as amended), CIBSE CP1 Heat Networks Code of Practice, and ESOS requirements
- Prepare and maintain risk assessments, method statements (RAMS), and ensure site safety compliance
- Adhere to CDM Regulations and company H&S policies
- Act as technical lead for clients, housing associations, developers, and managing agents
- Handle technical enquiries from consumers, supporting strong client relationships
- Manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring delivery standards and compliance
- Oversee warehouse stock, procurement of materials, and internal stock systems
- Assist with annual internal and external audits
- Provide technical training and mentoring to new team members
- Support business development with technical input where required
- Degree or equivalent qualification in engineering, building services, or related technical field (preferred)
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a technical role within heat networks, metering, or energy systems
- Strong knowledge of HIUs, heat networks, metering and billing systems, and M‑Bus networks
- Experience with system performance monitoring, optimisation, and commissioning
- Familiarity with Heat Network Regulations, CIBSE CP1, ESOS, and relevant compliance standards
- Excellent fault‑finding, problem‑solving, and report‑writing skills
- Strong project management and team leadership experience
- Full UK driving licence
- Behavioural expectations: accountability, adaptability, safety‑first mindset, and collaborative leadership
- Primarily field‑based with nationwide travel across the UK
- Hybrid working model: remote administrative tasks from office when not on site
- Flexible working hours beyond standard 9–5 in line with business and site requirements
- Initially no direct reports, but expected to build and manage a technical team as the role expands
- Direct management of technical staff once recruited, including training and supervision
- Responsibility for managing subcontractor relationships and performance
