Join the Environment Agency as a Process & Chemical Engineering Industry Placement for 2026. The 12‑month placement starts in September 2026 and offers hands‑on experience working with UK regulated industry teams that reduce environmental impacts and improve process safety.

Support you can count on

From day one you will have a mentor, office buddy, and access to the EA’s Chemical Engineering group – a community focused on professional development and peer support. You will also take part in a welcome event packed with learning and networking.

Job Description – Responsibilities

During your placement you will gain experience in:

  • Data management and analysis

  • Developing environmental standards
  • Incident management and enforcement
  • Partnership working and public engagement
Experience/Skills Required

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in the environment and a passion for creating a better place for people and wildlife. Applicants should bring curiosity, flexibility and determination to make positive change happen.

Academic background: you should be studying (or have studied) a Chemical or Process Engineering degree accredited by IChemE.

Experience doesn’t have to come from paid work alone – volunteering, sports teams or social clubs all count.

Eligibility Criteria
  • UK, Commonwealth or EEA national with the right to work in the UK.
  • Enrolled in an undergraduate degree, or an integrated master’s program, and in the penultimate year of study, or have graduated within the last year (from June 2025 onwards).
