SEMH Teaching Assistant - Halesworth, Suffolk
Full-time Monday - Friday 8:30am - 3:30pm
About the RoleWe are seeking an experienced and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join an Independent SEMH School based in Halesworth, Suffolk. This is a full-time position ideal for individuals who have experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in young people's lives.
The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils' academic progress, emotional wellbeing, and social development within a nurturing and structured environment.
Key Responsibilities- Provide targeted support for pupils with SEMH and ASD needs, both on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
- Assist in the planning and delivery of personalised learning programmes
- Support pupils' emotional regulation and social development
- Work closely with teaching staff to implement behaviour and engagement strategies
- Monitor pupil progress and contribute to assessments and reporting
- Support effective classroom management to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment
- Contribute to the wider pastoral and academic aims of the school
- Experience working with children with SEMH and/or ASD needs
- Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant, ideally within a specialist or mainstream school setting
- Understanding of strategies to support social, emotional and behavioural development
- Strong communication skills, patience, and resilience
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team
- A flexible, proactive and professional approach
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
- Right to work in the UK
