Contract: Day-to-Day / Bank Work (potential to transition into full-time)
Location: West Drayton, Greater London
About Us
Milk Education is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a specialist primary school dedicated to high-quality provision for pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). We’re seeking professional, proactive SEN Teaching Assistants to deliver meaningful daily support.
This is a day-to-day Teaching Assistant role supporting pupils with ASD across the school day, with genuine potential for progression into a permanent full-time position for excellent performers.
Key Day-to-Day ResponsibilitiesYou’ll be expected to deliver reliable, hands-on support and help keep the day running smoothly — not just sit quietly at the back:
Classroom & Learning Support
Provide targeted 1:1 and small group support so pupils can access lesson objectives and complete tasks.
Adapt and prepare learning materials (visuals, manipulatives, worksheets) to suit individual needs.
Use structured communication tools (visual timetables, PECS, “now/next” boards) to support understanding and independence.
Facilitate sensory-based or regulated breaks and help pupils navigate transitions throughout the day.
Behaviour, Regulation & Wellbeing
Support positive behaviour and emotional regulation using consistent, calm strategies tailored to each pupil.
Help maintain a structured, low-arousal classroom environment that promotes safety and engagement.
Recognise early signs of dysregulation and intervene proactively to reduce escalation.
Personal & Practical Support
Assist with aspects of daily routines, including arrival, breaks, lunchtime supervision, and end-of-day transitions.
Provide personal care support where needed (e.g., toileting, handwashing, supported movement around school) with patience and dignity.
Ensure pupils feel safe, supported, and engaged throughout each session.
Communication & Collaboration
Work closely with class teachers, SENCO, therapists and other staff to ensure targeted support is consistent and effective.
Share observations, contribute to pupil progress records, and support intervention planning.
Attend briefings, team meetings, and training sessions to stay aligned with school practice.
General School Duties
Prepare and organise resources before and after activities.
Supervise pupils during non-class times, including breaks and lunch where required.
Adhere strictly to safeguarding, health & safety, and confidentiality policies.
We’re looking for someone who:
Has experience supporting children with SEN; ASD experience is highly valued
Communicates confidently and professionally
Is calm under pressure, patient and consistent
Can adapt approaches quickly to suit individual pupil needs
Works collaboratively within a team and follows school systems
Is committed to inclusive education and promoting pupil independence
