SEND Teacher (Specialist School)
Location: Specialist School, Sheffield
Contract: Full-time / Permanent (or Fixed Term, if applicable)
Salary: MPS / UPS + SEN Allowance (dependent on experience)
The SEND Teacher will plan, deliver, and assess high-quality teaching and learning for pupils with a range of special educational needs and disabilities. The role requires experience of working in specialist school settings
, with a strong commitment to inclusive practice, personalised learning, and positive outcomes for all pupils.
- Plan and deliver engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to pupils with complex SEND
- Create a structured, supportive, and nurturing learning environment
- Adapt teaching strategies to meet a range of learning styles and needs
- Use assessment to monitor progress and inform next steps
- Promote independence, communication, and life skills alongside academic learning
- Contribute to the development, implementation, and review of EHCPs
- Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets
- Write clear and accurate reports for annual reviews and multi-agency meetings
- Work closely with families, carers, and external professionals
- Implement positive behaviour support and emotional regulation strategies
- Support pupils social, emotional, and mental health needs
- Maintain high expectations while promoting pupils dignity and wellbeing
- Work collaboratively with Teaching Assistants and support staff
- Provide guidance and support to TAs to ensure effective classroom practice
- Contribute to whole-school development and specialist provision
- Engage in ongoing professional development and reflective practice
- Qualified Teacher Status (
QTS
) - Experience teaching pupils with SE
- Strong understanding of a range of SEND (e.g. Autism, ADHD, SEMH, MLD, SLD, PMLD)
- Knowledge of EHCP processes and personalised learning
- Excellent classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to safeguarding and inclusive education
- Additional SEND qualifications or specialist training
- Experience working with alternative or adapted curricula
- Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
- Team Teach or positive behaviour support training desireable
- A supportive and inclusive specialist school environment
