Job Overview

We would like to appoint a Salaried GP for 6 sessions per week covering maternity leave for a period of 8‑9 months commencing April / May 2026. New qualified GPs encouraged. We are looking for a team player who will work well in a forward‑thinking practice that is constantly changing and improving to deliver excellent patient care.

Main Duties

To perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence. To be involved in the provision of education and training to GP Registrars and other staff.

To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.

Responsibilities
  • Perform surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
  • Make professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
  • Assess the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
  • Screen patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
  • In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, develop care plans for health.
  • Provide counselling and health education.
  • Admit or discharge patients to and from the caseload and refer to other care providers as appropriate.
  • Record clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
  • Collect data for audit purposes.
  • Compile and issue computer‑generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
  • Prescribe in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
  • Visit patients during surgery time in an emergency if clinically indicated.
  • Undertake a fair % of On Call sessions per week as allocated on the practice rota and participate in the extended hours enhanced service.
  • Undertake fair share of home visiting sessions per week as allocated.
Qualifications
  • Qualified GP
  • MRCGP
  • General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
Experience
  • Experience of working in a primary care environment
  • Experience of continued professional development
  • Experience of QOF and clinical audit
  • General understanding of the primary care contract
Eligibility
  • Full GMC registration
  • National Performers List registration (England), noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation
  • Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
  • Evidence of current validation
  • Evidence of last appraisal
  • Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
