We are looking for a compassionate and experienced Locum Consultant in Paediatrics to join our vibrant and supportive general paediatric team at Sheffield Children’s.

This post offers the opportunity to combine acute and general paediatric responsibilities with a specialist role in safeguarding. The Safeguarding Support Unit (SSU) delivers child protection medical assessments to children and young people and families from Sheffield and the wider region. You would contribute to high‑quality care and service development across both general paediatrics and the SSU.

About You:

Relevant expertise in Safeguarding

CESR applicants must be on the Specialist Register at the time of application.

Main duties of the job

You will report to the Associate Medical Director, and responsibilities will include:

Deliver general paediatric care through clinics and acute service cover, including Consultant of the Week duties, rapid access clinics, twilight shifts, weekends, and on‑call commitments.

Safeguarding assessments for children and young people through:

Suspected abuse and neglect assessments

Option to complete CSAAS forensic medical assessments (support and supervision provided if needed)

Person Specification Qualifications
  • MBBS or equivalent
  • MRCPCH by examination or equivalent
  • GMC Registration
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc/PhD relevant to the subspecialty
Training
  • Valid APLS training
  • FMERSA Certification
  • APLS instructor
Clinical Experience
  • Good clinical experience in general paediatrics
  • Evidence of prior safeguarding experience and interest
