We’re looking for a Business Analyst who’s excited by meaningful challenge and motivated by real impact. This is a chance to join Social Work England on a 2-year fixed-term basis and play a key role in a dynamic, multi‑skilled digital team that spans product, delivery, design and engineering. Working across our entire digital portfolio, you’ll help shape services that make a genuine difference to social workers and the people they support.

As our Business Analyst, you will contribute to delivering high quality analysis outputs across all our digital services to improve the experience of our external and internal users contributing to projects from inception to the point it goes live. You will facilitate stakeholder workshops, display skill in interviewing, effective questioning and have an ability to capture valuable output that you can build further analysis on.

You’ll work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation, exploring problems, identifying opportunities, and surfacing risks or dependencies early to help teams deliver with confidence. The variety of projects and the close partnership with multi‑disciplinary teammates means no two days look the same—bringing both professional challenge and the satisfaction of seeing your work deliver visible, meaningful outcomes.

About

the role

In this role you will:

  • Working with other members of the team, contribute to the approach to identify, investigate, analyse and communicate business problems and opportunities within a project or programme of work through discovery, alpha and delivery phases.
  • Facilitate workshops, interviews and focus groups to effectively understand business problems and user needs within large complex products or services.
  • Contribute to the analysis and collection of information to formulate evidence‑based recommendations for data and service improvements.
  • Help teams to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and adhere to agreed minimum viable product (MVP), priorities and scope.
  • Using Agile principles, work with business owners and users to elicit requirements, translating these into functional specifications.
  • Analyse the potential consequences of a change. Estimate what needs to be modified to accomplish that change, and scope changes within the details of the overall project design, identifying potential stakeholders.
  • Define, decide and implement metrics to measure and evaluate outcomes of implemented improvements.
  • Engage with colleagues to ensure business systems, workflows and processes contribute to target operating model.
  • Produce project documents, advice, briefing and other materials to support the work of the project management office.
Your skills, knowledge and experience

You will be involved in the whole project lifecycle from inception to go live, no two days will be the same as you work across multiple services and phases of delivery across products and service, for this role you will need:

  • The ability to build strong relationships in order to understand, empathise, negotiate and influence individuals and groups
  • The ability to effectively communicate complex information to a range of stakeholders with varying levels of understanding
  • The ability to investigate, analyse, visualise, articulate and solve problems and make disciplined decisions based on available information.
  • Experience of software development using Agile techniques.
  • The ability to identify and pinpoint business opportunities to enable us to perform more effectively.
  • The ability to understand complex technical requirements and to translate these into user stories and/or IT specifications.
  • Strong organisational skills, able to balance a range of activities simultaneously to ensure they remain on track.
  • The ability to work flexibly as part of a team, adapting to changing priorities and workloads
  • Experience of working with external suppliers to delivery software that exceeds user expectations.
