The Chronic Registered Nurse (RN) provides direct and coordinated nursing care to patients with End Stage Kidney Disease (ESKD), ensuring safe and effective delivery of hemodialysis treatment. This position is responsible for patient assessment, treatment planning, intervention, and evaluation while collaborating with a multidisciplinary healthcare team to achieve optimal patient outcomes. The RN also serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and educator for both patients and staff in alignment with established practice standards and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities- Deliver direct hemodialysis treatment and coordinate care for assigned patients under supervision of the Clinical Leader or Supervisor.
- Perform comprehensive pre-, during-, and post-treatment assessments
, documenting findings and adjusting care plans accordingly. - Administer prescribed medications and monitor patient response, reporting any variances or complications.
- Educate patients and families regarding treatment options, transplant awareness, and self-care practices
. - Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to update nursing assessments and plans of care.
- Ensure accurate laboratory collection, processing, and documentation procedures.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations
, initiating appropriate life‑saving measures. - Supervise and delegate responsibilities to Patient Care Technicians, LVNs/LPNs, and RNs as appropriate.
- Participate in staff training, orientation, and continuing education programs.
- Maintain compliance with Kidney Care policies, safety procedures, and federal/state regulations

- 1 year of nephrology nursing experience within the past 2 years as a Registered Nurse.
- Chronic hemodialysis experience required.
- Minimum 9 months RN experience; at least 3 months in dialysis required.
- Prior experience in acute or outpatient dialysis settings.
- Leadership or charge nurse experience.
- Proficiency in hemodialysis techniques, treatment monitoring, and patient care documentation.
- Strong clinical decision‑making and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and patient education skills.
- Knowledge of infection control, quality assurance, and safety procedures.
- Ability to lead interdisciplinary care teams effectively.
- Flexibility to travel or float to other care sites as needed.
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing (ADN or BSN).
- Current Wisconsin RN license (or compact state equivalent).
- Current CPR/BLS certification required.
- Must meet all state and facility practice standards.
- Frequent standing, bending, and assisting patients with mobility and transfers.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and assist with moving heavy equipment (with support).
- Exposure to infectious materials in a controlled healthcare setting.
- Requires color vision test (Ishihara); accommodations available where appropriate.
