The Director of Ice & Arena Operations is responsible for the overall leadership, management, and strategic direction of the ice arena. This position oversees all aspects of facility operations, ice quality, programming, staffing, financial performance, and community relations. The Director ensures the arena operates safely, efficiently, and in a manner that provides an exceptional experience for skaters, guests, staff, and partner organizations.
Facility& Ice Operations
- Oversee all daily operations of the ice arena, ensuring a clean, safe, and well‑maintained facility.
- Ensure consistently high‑quality ice conditions, including resurfacing standards, edging, and dasher board maintenance.
- Manage preventative maintenance schedules and coordinate major repairs with vendors and contractors.
- Oversee and understand facility mechanical systems, including refrigeration, HVAC, and dehumidification.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, risk management practices, and emergency procedures.
- Lead, supervise, and mentor all full-time and part-time staff, including the Assistant Ice Arena Director.
- Establish staffing plans, schedules, training programs, and performance evaluations.
- Foster a positive, professional, and team‑oriented workplace culture.
- Address employee concerns, disciplinary matters, and conflict resolution as needed.
- Ensure staff adherence to safety, customer service, and operational standards.
- Oversee the scheduling and execution of skating programs, leagues, lessons, tournaments, and special events.
- Collaborate with hockey associations, figure skating clubs, schools, and community partners.
- Develop and implement new programs that enhance community engagement and support revenue growth.
- Evaluate program performance and implement improvements as needed.
- Develop, manage, and monitor the arena’s operating budget.
- Oversee purchasing, inventory control, and vendor contracts.
- Set rental rates, program fees, and pricing strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Ensure accurate recordkeeping, reporting, and cash‑handling procedures.
- Review financial reports and identify opportunities for cost control and operational efficiency.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for key partners, user groups, and stakeholders.
- Ensure an inclusive, welcoming, and customer‑focused environment.
- Address escalated customer concerns, incidents, and risk‑related matters.
- Represent the arena positively within the community and support marketing and promotional efforts.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in recreation, sports management, business administration, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in ice arena management, facility operations, or sports/recreation leadership.
- Strong knowledge of ice maintenance, Zamboni operation, and arena mechanical systems.
- Proven leadership experience managing teams and supervisors.
- Strong financial, organizational, and problem‑solving skills.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in cold environments.
