Calling all Civil Engineering Students! If you are looking for a summer internship where you will get hands-on experience, look no further. This seasonal Engineering Intern position will assist the Public Works Engineering staff and the Public Works Department with a variety of duties related to civil engineering, field maintenance, project management, and public infrastructure maintenance. This employee should be flexible and possess exceptional communication, research, analytical, organizational and computer skills.

Interaction is direct with the public, contractors, vendors, consultants and other departments of the City. The hiring range for this position begins at $16 per hour for current college students, and $17.50 per hour for graduates of a Bachelor's program.

Position Responsibilities:

Engineering. Assist in updating project schedules, managing contracts, and processing invoices. Attend construction progress meetings. Assist the stormwater division with reviewing pipe ratings and videos. Assist the Community Development department with developer plan reviews and other tasks as needed.

Maintenance. Work alongside Public Works Maintenance staff to gain exposure to field maintenance activities. This includes areas such as vehicle maintenance, road maintenance, traffic signals and street light maintenance, and right-of-way and utility coordination.

Field Work. Perform project inspection duties in the field. Perform minor surveying tasks in the field. Measure quantities in the field for use in project pay estimates.

AutoCAD / GIS. Perform updates on City Standard Details in CAD. Prepare maps and exhibits in GIS for reports/presentations. Create new data layers as needed.

Grants / Accreditation / Permitting. Assist with permits including disseminating permit information and issuing permits related to ROW, etc.

Special Projects. Works alongside other City interns to conduct research, complete projects, and give presentations to City Staff when appropriate.

Other Duties. Support the Public Works Department and other City departments to perform other duties, as deemed necessary or assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

* High School Diploma required.

* Requires enrollment towards a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management and some course work in a related field.

Or any combination of education and experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the responsibilities identified in this job description.

Work Schedule:

In general, this position requires a commitment of 35 - 40 hours per week during the summer months, with some flexibility depending on the student's other commitments. Attendance at weekend and evening events is optional.
