Mechanical Engineer - Design

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

Mechanical Engineer - Design will lead the HVAC design process. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in HVAC systems along with excellent coordination and leadership skills to manage consultants, contractors, and site teams.

• Manage the HVAC designs including all inputs, coordination and deliverables to achieve the time, cost, and quality objectives in accordance with company policy, procedures and the Design Management Plan.
• Develop and implement HVAC Engineering solutions, standards, guidelines and controls covering all MEP disciplines so that all relevant procedural requirements are fulfilled for delivering quality HVAC solutions.
• Develop the HVAC Project design briefs (concept) & scope of works and maintain them by regular review.
• Ensure all the applied systems meet the highest quality, safety and environmental standards.
• Attend regular meetings (on work progress, coordination, design, etc.) to give guidance on key issues related to the project and take effective corrective actions.
• Check and approve the compatibility of the HVAC drawings and designs and ensure resolving any inconsistencies in coordination with the relevant parties.
• Oversee and guide consultants design progress activities. Monitor and verify design progress and submittals at all design phases.
• Advise the project/design manager on all matters pertaining to cost scope and schedule with regards to design developments.
• Maintain and update information on the latest technology for the HVAC systems and ensure it is reflected on the design as required.
• Apply value engineering approach wherever possible to reduce costs, improve quality and increase productivity. This involves the analysis of the functions of a proposed project, system, equipment, product, and services to improve reliability, performance, safety, quality and lifecycle costs.
• Prepare feasibility studies for various mechanical and electrical systems to minimize and optimize project’s capital and running costs
• Ensure that the design intent and design performance criteria are maintained through the design development and construction process.
• Lead problem solving and resolution of design issues
• Work closely with the other disciplines’ team’s leaders from the conceptual design stage towards the final detailed design stage.
• Investigate new HVAC design concepts and technical developments of systems for applicability to engineering problems.

• BSc. in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited academic institution

• Minimum of (12) years post BSc qualification experience with a minimum of (8) years of experience in UAE.
• In-depth knowledge of international codes and standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, SMACNA).
• Strong experience in HVAC systems.
• In-depth knowledge of Building Codes & authorities’ requirements. Experience with Dubai/Sharjah authorities’ requirements is preferable.
• In-depth knowledge of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems & techniques
• In-depth knowledge of project management methodologies, techniques and concepts

• Excellent attention to detail and excellent in organization skill.
• Excellent communication skills - oral and written as well as presentation skills
• Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Tools and software relevant to job functions
