Position: E&I Construction Engineer (Work pack)

Overview

Wood is recruiting for an E&I Construction Engineer (Work pack) to join its UAE Business Unit, focusing on developing, coordinating, and managing Electrical & Instrumentation construction workpacks for a major onshore brownfield project in Sharjah, UAE. This is a full-time, office-based role in Sharjah, UAE with travel requirements.

Responsibilities

Key Objectives

The E&I Construction Work Pack Engineer is responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing Electrical & Instrumentation construction workpacks to ensure safe, compliant, and efficient execution of all E&I construction activities. This role serves as the link between engineering, construction, QA/QC, HSE, vendors, and commissioning teams to ensure all work is fully defined, planned, and executed to meet project specifications.

Key Responsibilities

1. Workpack Development
  • Prepare detailed E&I construction workpacks covering work scope, job steps, drawings, loop folders, cable schedules, termination details, installation standards, tools/equipment, manpower requirements, and QA/QC checklists.
  • Incorporate latest IFC drawings (single-line diagrams, schematics, installation layouts, instrument datasheets, hook-up drawings, cable routing, tray layouts).
  • Define installation methodology for electrical equipment, instruments, junction boxes, cables, earthing, lighting systems, control systems, etc.
  • Capture all testing & commissioning prerequisites such as continuity tests, insulation resistance, loop checks, instrument calibration, and pre-energization checks.
2. Construction Readiness & Planning
  • Conduct field visits to confirm constructability and identify site constraints.
  • Coordinate with planning to sequence E&I activities and enter them into the Level 4 construction schedule.
  • Verify availability of materials (instruments, panels, JB, cabling, lighting, supports, glands, terminals) before job execution.
  • Ensure workpacks include required scaffolding, temporary power, lifting arrangements, hazardous area compliance, and special tools/meters.
3. Interface & Coordination
  • Act as the coordination point between engineering, procurement, QA/QC, completions, construction supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with civil, mechanical, and piping teams to resolve clashes and ensure multidiscipline alignment of workpacks.
  • Support pre-job briefings, toolbox talks, and daily coordination meetings.
  • Ensure seamless transition between construction, pre‑commissioning, and commissioning activities.
4. HSE Requirements
  • Embed HSE requirements into each workpack, including hazard identification, JHA/JSA, lockout–tagout (LOTO), and SIMOPS considerations.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety standards, safe isolation, HV/LV switching rules, and hazardous area classifications (ATEX/IECEx).
  • Support field safety teams with risk assessments and ensuring safe execution of energized and non-energized works.
5. Quality Assurance & Technical Compliance
  • Define inspection points and test requirements: cable testing, continuity, IR testing, torque checks, loop checks, functional tests.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, industry standards (IEC, NEC, IEEE, ISA), and client requirements.
  • Work with QA/QC to ensure proper documentation: redlines/as‑builts, test records, calibration sheets, FAT/SAT documentation.
6. Field Support & Execution Monitoring
  • Provide technical clarification during installation of electrical systems, control panels, marshalling cabinets, instruments, transmitters, analyzers, junction boxes, and field wiring.
  • Resolve technical queries (TQs), deviations, site queries, and installation conflicts.
  • Track progress and provide updates on construction status, constraints, and punch list closures.
7. Completions & Handover
  • Support system/subsystem walkdowns for Mechanical Completion (MC).
