Project Engineer, Engineering Design & Technologists

Job Requirements

The Project Engineer will play a critical role in the FEL-2 phase of capital project development, supporting the evaluation of project concepts, scope definition, and early design. The role involves working closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure technical and economic feasibility of project alternatives, and to develop the conceptual engineering deliverables required for gate reviews and funding approval.

• Lead or support the FEL-2 phase for capital projects, focusing on developing and optimizing conceptual engineering scope.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil, electrical, instrumentation, and other engineering disciplines to define project scope and design basis.
• Participate in or lead option assessments and trade-off studies to identify the most viable technical solutions.
• Prepare or review conceptual design deliverables including PFDs, design basis documents, block flow diagrams, plot plans, and preliminary equipment lists.
• Collaborate with cost estimators to support Class 4 (or similar) capital cost estimating.
• Assist in developing preliminary project schedules and identifying long-lead items.
• Support risk assessments, constructability reviews, and value improvement practices during FEL-2.
• Interface with stakeholders, including operations, maintenance, HSE, and commercial, to align project objectives.
• Assist in the preparation of documentation for stage-gate reviews, including decision support packages.

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical, Mechanical, Civil, or related field).
• 5+ years of relevant project engineering experience in industrial or capital projects.
• Experience in FEL-1 and FEL-2 stages of project development preferred.
• Strong understanding of conceptual engineering, design practices, and project lifecycle.
• Excellent communication, coordination, and technical writing skills.
• Familiarity with cost estimation, scheduling, and risk management tools.
