job summarythe cad technician – grain systems is responsible for completing cad and estimating activities within the grain systems department. This role produces detailed project drawings, material lists, and purchase orders while ensuring all designs meet company standards, quality requirements, and project specifications.
the cad technician works closely with project managers, estimators, purchasing, and field teams to ensure designs are accurate, material lists are complete, and estimates align with project scope. This position plays a critical role in supporting efficient production, accurate purchasing, and overall project profitability.
duties / responsibilities- follow the cad/estimating process playbook
- create cad models from sketches, rfqs, and project specifications
- collect and calculate structural materials required for designs
- develop detailed construction plans, material cut lists, and purchase orders
- perform final reviews of construction plans, estimates, and material lists
- ensure all vendor pos and material lists are accurate prior to submission to purchasing
- verify compliance with company drafting standards and quality requirements
- collaborate with project managers to confirm scope and project needs
- participate in project meetings and department training
- utilize cad blocks and drafting standards appropriately
- maintain efficiency, quality, and accuracy of all outputs
- contribute to continuous improvement of cad and estimating processes
- strong understanding of construction drafting and estimating principles
- high attention to detail and quality control mindset
- strong organizational and time-management skills
- critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- effective written and verbal communication skills
- ability to adapt to new technologies and software platforms
- results-driven and self-motivated
- ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- associate’s degree in drafting & design, engineering, architecture, ag business, or related field preferred
- minimum 2 years experience in drafting, estimating, or related construction field preferred
- experience in agriculture or grain handling systems preferred
- working knowledge of autocad and estimating software (experience with inventor is a plus)
- proficiency with outlook, excel, teams, clickup, smart build, b2w, foundation, or similar systems preferred
- ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods
- ability to review and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- occasional travel to job sites as needed
