The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for multiple Food Service Lead positions, at the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) located in Seward, Alaska.

Facilities 30 Second Cut

• Leads prisoner kitchen workers in the preparation and production of meals for approximately 550 prisoners and 30 staff per meal at Spring Creek Correctional Center in the APS main kitchen.
• Maintains security and control of prisoners in the absence of Correctional Officer staff.
• Ensures meat pulls are consistent with prepared menu, oversees actual preparation and serving of food to inmates and staff.
• Ensures that all modified diets are properly prepared for each meal, which includes, but is not limited to, vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, disruptive inmate diets, religious diets, and other diets as prescribed by the Medical Department.
• Ensures the proper baking and preparation of all breads and pastry items, e.g., sandwich, hot dog buns, hamburger buns, French bread, wheat, rye breads, cakes, pies, cookies, pudding and breakfast pastries.

The mission of Spring Creek Correctional Center is to provide a secure environment for staff and offenders that promotes public safety and provides an opportunity for staff development, and reformative offender programming to ensure safety and efficient resources management. As the State of Alaska's only Maximum-Security adult male facility we provide confinement for minimum, medium, and close custody sentenced felons including the state's most violent and predatory offenders.

The institution has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff. This position will be located in one of the three institutional kitchens.

• Food Service:
  Knowledge of preparing and serving food for consumption.

  Knowledge of planning, growing, and harvesting of food for consumption using appropriate equipment and techniques.

• The community of Seward is nestled against a backdrop of peaks and passes sculpted by Ice Age glaciers;
  Seward’s ice-free harbor has long served as a natural gateway to the vast scenic and resource riches of Alaska’s huge interior.
• Residents enjoy outstanding outdoor recreation including the Kenai Fjords National Park, which is dominated by glaciated landscapes. Exit Glacier is one of the many glaciers in the park and is only a short drive from downtown Seward.
• Seward is located on Resurrection Bay, a fickle body of water teeming with an abundant species of fish and frolicking marine mammals.
• Seward is home to the Mt. Marathon Race which is run every July 4th. The race totals 3.1 miles and climbs 3022 feet. Top finishers cross the finish line in about an hour.
• Seward schools are second to none, with the Seward Elementary School being selected as a 2008 “No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School.”
