Food Service Lead; PCN

Overview

The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for multiple Food Service Lead positions at the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) located in Seward, Alaska.

• Lead prisoner kitchen workers in the preparation and production of meals for approximately 550 prisoners and 30 staff per meal at Spring Creek Correctional Center in the APS main kitchen.
• Maintain security and control of prisoners in the absence of Correctional Officer staff.
• Ensure meat pulls are consistent with the prepared menu, oversee actual preparation and serving of food to inmates and staff.
• Ensure that all modified diets are properly prepared for each meal, including vegetarian, diabetic, allergy, disruptive inmate diets, religious diets, and other diets as prescribed by the Medical Department.
• Ensure the proper baking and preparation of all breads and pastry items (e.g., sandwich and hot dog buns, hamburger buns, French bread, wheat, rye breads, cakes, pies, cookies, pudding, and breakfast pastries).

The mission of Spring Creek Correctional Center is to provide a secure environment for staff and offenders that promotes public safety and provides an opportunity for staff development, and reformative offender programming to ensure safety and efficient resources management. As Alaska's only Maximum-Security adult male facility, we provide confinement for minimum, medium, and close custody sentenced felons including the state's most violent and predatory offenders.

The institution has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff. This position will be located in one of the three institutional kitchens.

• Vacancies in this job class are filled through Union referral, except for promotions, demotions, transfers, and emergency appointments.
• This job class is part of a series of competency-based class specifications created for career areas within the Labor, Trades, and Crafts Unit. The class specification identifies the levels of work and wage grades within the career area, the core and specific competencies, required work behaviors, certifications, and physical requirements.
• Starting salary may be approved up to Step D - $27.54, if criteria are met.
