Kenai Backcountry Adventures (KBA) is seeking experienced River Rafting Guides to join our Seward-based team for an unforgettable season on Alaska's glacial, braided rivers.
If you're a skilled whitewater guide who thrives in dynamic outdoor environments, loves working with people, and knows how to blend safety, leadership, and fun - this is your next great adventure.
The Role:
River Rafting Guide
As a River Rafting Guide, you'll lead guests down Class II-III+ glacial rivers surrounded by towering peaks and untamed wilderness. You'll be responsible for every aspect of the trip - from pre-trip preparation and guest safety to storytelling and unforgettable moments on the river.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide & Lead: Safely guide guests on Class II-III+ whitewater rafting trips while maintaining a strong focus on safety, teamwork, and fun.
- Operate Rafts: Primarily paddle rafts (experience with oar rigs is also valuable).
- Risk Management: Conduct safety briefings, assess river and weather conditions, and make real-time navigation decisions.
- Gear & Equipment: Inspect, clean, and maintain rafts, PPE, and safety gear to professional standards.
- Guest Experience: Deliver engaging interpretation and foster a fun, inclusive, and memorable atmosphere.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other guides and operations staff to ensure seamless trip logistics and guest satisfaction.
- Experience: 3-5 years guiding Class III-IV whitewater (glacial or braided river experience preferred).
- Certifications:
- Current Wilderness First Responder (WFR)
- Current Swiftwater Rescue Technician (SRT)
- Physical Requirements: Strong fitness level, able to work long days outdoors, lift/move 100+ lbs, and handle exposure to cold, wet conditions.
- Mindset: Calm under pressure, excellent communicator, and passionate about guest safety and experience.
- Driving: Clean driving record; valid driver's license required (CDL a plus).
- Pay: Competitive hourly rate + trip commissions and gratuities
- Season: Full-time seasonal (May-September) with potential for extended employment
- Advancement: Strong performers may be eligible for senior guide or leadership opportunities within KBA
