Overview
The Department of Corrections, Division of Institutions, is recruiting for an Adult Probation Officer 1/2A for the Spring Creek Correctional Complex (SCCC) located in Seward, Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing- Supervise a caseload of adult felony offenders under the jurisdiction of the Superior or District Courts of Alaska who have been remanded to the custody and care of the Department of Corrections.
- Maintain case files and conduct case management, including entry to the Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). Prepare and update an offender management plan (OMP) for each offender.
- Complete annual classification paperwork, conduct classification hearings, and complete furlough (half-way house) paperwork for prisoners eligible for housing in Community Residential Centers.
- Prepare discretionary and mandatory parole packets for the Alaska Board of Parole and prepare prisoners for release into the community, ensuring compliance with DNA requirements, Sex Offender Registration with the Department of Public Safety, and Victim Notification.
The mission of Spring Creek Correctional Center is to provide a secure environment for staff and offenders that promotes public safety and provides an opportunity for staff development and reformative offender programming to ensure safety and efficient resources management. As Alaska’s only maximum-security adult male facility, we provide confinement for minimum, medium, and close custody sentenced felons, including the state’s most violent and predatory offenders.

Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum-security, state-operated adult correctional institution with a capacity of over 500 male inmates and approximately 200 staff. The facility houses inmates serving long-term as well as shorter sentences.
Who We Are Looking ForWe are seeking candidates who possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies:

Knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines related to securing personnel, facilities, and information; understanding requirements for handling, transporting, and protecting classified information; and reporting security incidents.
Education and experience options:
- bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in any field; or
- Four years of paraprofessional experience in probation, parole, pretrial, criminal justice, juvenile justice, social services, corrections, criminal investigation, public safety or law enforcement; or
- Four years in any combination of postsecondary education from an accredited college and paraprofessional experience (2.67 semester hours or 4 quarter hours of postsecondary education equal one month of experience).
All Adult Probation Officer 1 positions are flexibly staffed. Advancement to the Adult Probation Officer 2 level occurs after successful completion of required training and certification, and is contingent on supervisor approval. Advancement to 2B requires completion of the Department’s Probation Officer Academy and the Probation Officer Field Training Manual.
Special Note (All Levels)- At time of employment, applicants must be 21 years of age and a U.S. citizen or national, and have a high school diploma or GED or equivalent.
- Possess a valid U.S. driver's license at time of appointment.

- Employees may be required to work shifts and be on-call; some applicants may need to obtain a basic correctional officer certificate within 14 months of hire (APSC requirements).
