Overview
The Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager position’s primary responsibility is to fulfill our mission statement, “to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for our Guests.” AITs and Assistant Managers perform a variety of sales, merchandising and operational tasks assigned by store management (e.g., cashiering, merchandise display and pulls, register procedures, and routine cleaning of facilities). Work directly with the Store Manager and Leadership Team to develop sales, recruit new Teammates, and provide leadership.
The AIT and Assistant Manager will also share responsibility for training and motivating Teammates and act as the Store Manager in their absence. The Assistant Manager position is a progression from the AIT position and includes higher-level duties specific to that role, though a majority of duties and responsibilities are shared.

Sales Generation and Guest Service- Greet Guests with a friendly, engaging attitude and provide legendary service to each Guest.
- Be eager and assertive in answering questions regarding the store and its merchandise.
- Recommend, select, and help locate or obtain merchandise based on Guest needs.
- Anticipate and fulfill Guests’ needs by suggesting additional items and creating a wardrobe experience.
- Demonstrate product knowledge and sales education to Guests and share knowledge with Team.
- Maintain knowledge of current sales, promotions, payment and exchange policies, and security practices.
- Maintain personal sales and contribute to Team presentations per the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG).
- Achieve personal sales-per-hour, average sale, and total net sales goals as set by Store Management.
- Provide legendary service throughout the store:
Front 5, sales floor, fitting rooms, and register area. - Know exchange and return procedures and leverage as a showmanship opportunity.
- Use the SPG daily to accomplish goals.
- Meet or exceed performance standards in Buckle business builders and guest loyalty programs.
- Explore opportunities to expand Guest selection through tools like Inventory Manager and advanced product search.
- Build and maintain relationships to develop a client-based business.
- Lead by example with showmanship, customer service, and attentiveness.
- Recognize and communicate Guest Levels with the Team.
- Ask business-driven, showmanship questions to Managers, Team Leaders and Teammates.
- Be coachable and welcome feedback to improve sales presentations.
- Demonstrate leadership consistently, with or without Manager presence.
- Plan sales goals with the Store Manager and take ownership of store sales performance.
- Show passion for product education and showmanship to drive results.
- Recognize recruiting opportunities using available tools and referrals.
- Coach and develop relationships through Guest Loyalty and Guest Preferred programs.
- Lead and mentor new Teammates to meet Buckle accountability standards, shift orientation, Loss Prevention, and sales presentation standards daily.
- Maintain a positive attitude to create a positive floor culture.
- Model professional dress to promote fashion standards among Teammates and Team Leaders.
- Participate in daily setup, training, impact, and reviews using the Performance Tracker.
- Motivate Teammates to complete daily tasks set by Store Management.
- Demonstrate denim showmanship and fit card coaching through Teammates and Guests.
- Develop and balance department results and complete weekly checks and calendars.
