Position: Maintenance Technician I

The Maintenance Technician I is responsible for performing general maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of properties and buildings owned and operated by Sevier County Government. The primary areas of responsibility include conducting routine preventative maintenance such as filter changes and system inspections, performing minor repairs to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, and completing carpentry, painting, and general building maintenance tasks. Additional duties include setting up spaces for events and meetings, receiving and delivering supplies, assembling and moving furniture, maintaining grounds and outdoor spaces, and addressing maintenance work orders.

This position ensures the safety, functionality, and cleanliness of county facilities. Job performance for this position will be evaluated by the Director of Maintenance and Senior Director of Facilities based on the ability to complete work orders efficiently, knowledge of maintenance practices, organizational skills, and effectiveness in maintaining county properties and interacting with coworkers and the public.

Responsibilities
  • Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks for county-owned and operated facilities, including changing HVAC filters, inspecting systems, and addressing maintenance needs according to established schedules.
  • Conducts general maintenance and repair work on plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems, including repairing or replacing light fixtures, outlets, faucets, plumbing lines, and other building components.
  • Completes minor repairs and adjustments to HVAC systems, ensuring that heating, cooling, and ventilation are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Assists with general building maintenance tasks such as painting, drywall patching, and other repair projects to ensure facilities remain in good condition.
  • Assists with the setup and breakdown of spaces for county-sponsored events, meetings, and other activities, ensuring that all required furniture, equipment, and materials are arranged appropriately.
  • Received, organizes, and delivers cleaning supplies and materials to housekeeping staff and county departments, ensuring that stock is maintained and available when needed.
  • Moves and assembles furniture for county departments and events, ensuring proper handling and assembly as needed.
  • Hangs pictures, signage, and other wall-mounted items, ensuring secure installation and proper placement.
  • Conducts groundskeeping tasks including blowing sidewalks, parking area, and removing leaves, trash, and debris from county-owned and operated properties to maintain a clean and presentable environment.
  • Performs routine inspections of outdoor areas, including parking lots, walkways, and landscaping, to ensure that they are well-maintained and free of hazards.
  • Responds promptly to maintenance work orders and completes tasks in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Maintains accurate records of completed tasks and preventive maintenance activities to ensure all work is documented.
  • Ensure compliance with safety protocols and standards while performing maintenance and repair activities.
  • Performs other incidental and related duties as required and assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Tennessee driver’s license and to be insured at standard vehicle liability rates
  • Ability to pass a physical and drug screen administered through a licensed physician
Supervisory Requirements

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
