We’re looking for a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a subsidiary of Tesco. A fast‑paced retail environment where no day is the same awaits you. As a Shift Leader you will take ownership of store activities by running duty shifts, coordinating a team to deliver a clean, fully stocked store that exceeds customer expectations. You will constantly seek ways to improve service through on‑the‑job coaching, feedback and practical actions that keep the store safe, tidy and customer‑friendly.
Responsibilities- Coordinate the team to deliver a smooth shopping experience.
- Open and close the store, complete duty cover, ensuring all decisions support customers, colleagues, and safety.
- Serve as the go‑to person for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for day‑to‑day operational queries.
- Support the Store Manager in coordinating seasonal, community and charity events, creating an inclusive atmosphere.
- Maintain store cleanliness, presentation, replenishment priorities and accurate point‑of‑sale and shelf edge labels.
- Take immediate action for any overcharges and prevent reoccurrences.
- Proactively manage queues to deliver a great shopping trip.
- Ensure colleagues receive breaks at the right times and are aligned with trade patterns.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the store, guiding others to deliver practical improvements.
- Follow health and safety routines and ensure colleagues do the same.
- Deliver clear communication to the team and keep them well informed.
- Identify and simplify operational processes, sharing ideas with the Store Manager.
- Put the customer first and adjust service to meet their needs.
- Be readily available to resolve customer queries and leave customers smiling.
- Recognise and celebrate colleagues who provide great service.
- Identify obstacles to service delivery and remove them.
- Resolve colleague queries in absence of the Store Manager, escalating appropriately.
- Staff the store appropriately, finding cover for absences or sickness.
- Act as a recognised keyholder for the store and attend alarm call‑outs when necessary.
- Monitor and act on internal communications, ensuring timely message action and colleague awareness.
- Co‑ordinate colleagues for customer and operational needs, feeding back to the Store Manager on any issues.
- Balance time between service and replenishment areas.
- Support the Store Manager in managing absence within the store, ensuring return‑to‑work interviews for CSA colleagues and absenteeism triggers are reported and acted upon, following One Stop absence policy procedures.
- Build meaningful relationships with your Area Manager & People Partner to enable timely escalation and support.
- When a Post Office Local is present, manage day‑to‑day operations, and you will need to pass a Post Office financial and criminal conviction background check; failure will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
