About the job Kitchen Helper (Serangoon)

Responsibilities:

Kitchen Housekeeping and Maintenance
  • Maintain orderliness and safety standards in the NFS food laboratory (kitchen) and preparation room.
  • Laundering of cleaning cloths and aprons.
  • Cleaning and maintenance of equipment and utensils.
  • Organisation of student workstations, including table tops, drawers and sinks after each lesson.
  • Other related maintenance duties as required.
  • Manage kitchen equipment and appliances.
  • Support security and safety procedures by verifying that main gas taps, electrical switches are off and knives are properly secured at the end of the day.
  • Appropriate storage of leftover items.
  • Ingredient sorting based on expiry dates.
Food Preparation and Hygiene Management
  • Transport food ingredients/materials from Level 1 to the NFS kitchens at Level 3.
  • Cutting, weighing and portioning of ingredients.
  • Setting up common ingredients at the centre table.
  • Organise and store ingredients appropriately in refrigerators and cupboards.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in operating kitchen and food science equipment, including:
  • Electric steamers.
  • Rice cookers.
  • Stop watches.
  • Weighing scales.
  • Perform additional food preparation and hygiene-related duties as required.
Administrative Functions
  • Process and verify food orders.
  • Maintain and update food supply inventory records for NFS teachers.
  • Provide operational support to NFS teachers during laboratory sessions.
  • Food order verification.
  • Receipt filing and labelling.
  • Other related administrative tasks.
Requirements
  • Good communication skills in English.
  • Physically fit for manual tasks.
  • Experience in food preparation, safety, hygiene, and kitchen operations (preferably in schools).
  • Able to operate standard kitchen equipment.
  • Basic administrative skills (orders, inventory, records).
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience in an educational kitchen setting and a commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and cleanliness.

Contract:

1 year (option to extend another year), 1 Jan 2026 to 31 Dec 2026.

Working Hours

During school term (inclusive of 1 hour lunch break):

  • Mon–Thu: 7.30am – 3.45pm
  • Fri: 8.30am – 5.30pm

During school holidays (inclusive of 1 hour lunch break):

  • 8.00am – 12.00pm
  • 12.00pm – 4.00pm

Service not required on Saturdays, Sundays and gazetted public holidays.
