Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the caregiver assumes responsibility for the collection of data related to patient status, performance of basic nursing procedures, ongoing collection and documentation of patient data, assistance with treatments and procedures, and assistance with maintenance of patient care equipment.

• Assists patients with activities of daily living and hygiene; turns and repositions patients, may transport patients and assist with walking. Assists adult and pediatric patients with toileting needs in relation to their age, including emptying established colostomy bags and urinary catheter removal. Assists with fall prevention interventions and patient restraints as delegated. Removes and reapplies anti-emboli hose or compression devices.
• Assists with admission of patients to the unit by preparing the room, greeting and orienting patient and family to the unit (bed, call light, phone, TV).
• Takes and records vital signs; repeats questionable values as needed.
• Prepares patients for meals and assists in feeding and providing snacks and supplements.
• Collects urine, stool, and sputum specimens and delivers specimens to the appropriate department as requested.
• Completes documentation in the EMR in an accurate and timely manner.
• Maintains cleanliness and order of the hospital room, utility room, diet kitchen, hallways and alcoves; disposes of excess linen and ensures linen is emptied.
• Performs point-of-care testing as trained and delegated by the RN; reports lab values to the RN.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

• This is a non-management job that reports to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.

• Education:
  
  Completion of a nursing assistant program preferred.
