This job posting is for a Mechanical Engineer to perform duties of Component Engineer for the Maintenance Support Engineering (MSE) team. The Mechanical Component Engineer will play a vital role in ensuring high reliability of Heat Exchangers, Expansion Joints, and Flex Hoses through effective testing, maintenance, and long‑range planning consistent with station goals.
This position is at the Nuclear Engineer III or Senior Nuclear Engineer level of the Engineering classification hierarchy. Depending upon the qualifications of the successful applicant, the hiring manager may elect to fill this position as a Nuclear Engineer III or Senior.
Nuclear Engineer IIIEmployees at this level solve more complex problems in engineering areas of mechanical systems and components with general supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and the ability to work with greater independence. They effectively apply fundamental concepts and procedures to work that is complex and varied.
Senior Nuclear EngineerEmployees at this level manage work in engineering areas of mechanical systems and components with minimal supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop advanced skills and to work independently, with guidance limited to unusual or complex projects or issues. They identify problems, develop solutions, and take action to resolve. Senior Engineer represents a level at which career may stabilize for many years.
Responsibilities- Provide engineering/technical guidance to Operations, Maintenance, and other groups in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems of increasing scope and complexity inside and outside the scope of assigned responsibility.
- Support periodic testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of assigned mechanical components; evaluate and solve equipment failures, degradation, and operational issues; initiate and advocate system reliability improvements.
- Perform component maintenance optimization for Heat Exchangers, Expansion Joints, and Flex Hoses and coordinate component reliability improvements.
- Provide tactical support for day‑to‑day maintenance of the plant and serve as the designated owner for critical components.
- Ensure accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling, and monitoring of work activities.
- Prepare thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, and documentation with the ability to conduct analysis for defined problems of increasing scope and complexity.
- Conduct engineering and equipment related investigations with full technical responsibility for planning and coordinating problem resolution.
- Provide component/system technical support for Operability Determinations and support review of Operations and Maintenance procedures.
- Apply a broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures.
- Demonstrate ability to analyze and recommend enhancements to business processes and develop standards relevant to area of assignment; keep abreast of new developments, technologies, procedures and equipment.
- Develop positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities.
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ensure that mechanical system health issues are communicated to key stakeholders and management.
- Maintain accurate records and files.
- Coach and mentor less experienced engineers as needed.
- Support the company's goals and represent the company professionally.
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited program.
