Position Summary
Assists in the maintenance of the Cooperative’s automotive fleet, ensuring all vehicles are in usable and effective condition. Assists in providing maintenance of Cooperative buildings as required. Assists in ensuring DOT vehicle maintenance and documentation is compliant with current standards and requirements. Oversees the Fleet and Facility Management system.
Essential Functions- Performs appropriate mechanical repair work on Cooperative vehicles; including: power train, air conditioning units, wheel assemblies, bearings, etc.; as directed.
- Assists with maintaining and implementing records/schedules of all routine preventive maintenance on vehicles and special equipment.
- Performs repair work on heavy and special equipment as required.
- Does welding and builds special equipment for the Cooperative as directed.
- Performs emergency repair work in the field.
- Responsible and accountable for the safe, correct use and preservation of all tools, vehicles and special equipment assigned to the department.
- Handles minor building maintenance as required.
- Keeps work area clean and orderly and observes all safety rules and standards.
- Supports a safety culture of promoting “safety first” in all aspects of the job and exhibiting examples of safe practices. Participates at a close level in the Cooperative’s safety plan and with the Safety Coordinator. Provides feedback as requested about safety related issues.
- Maintains a working knowledge of all major policies and procedures of the Cooperative.
- Promotes coordination and cooperation between all departments of the Cooperative. Promotes team spirit and enthusiasm between employees of the Department.
- Reports any irregularities in Cooperative operations to the Contract Administration Superintendent and/or the Human Resources Administrator.
- Performs other duties as required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required. Additional automotive and/or welding technology training/certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years with a utility or commercial shop with actual work experience in repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and related power operated hydraulic equipment. In depth, hands‑on experience in repair of all types of motor equipment.
- Class A CDL Preferred
- Work experience may be substituted for the education requirement as well as additional education may be substituted for work experience.
- Oral and Written Communication - Ability to speak and write clearly and accurately; with the capability to read and interpret documents such as system mapping, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate orally and in written form with customers, other employees, and the general public.
- Mathematical Skills – Ability to understand and apply mathematical concepts used as a mechanic.
- Technical Skills – Able to comprehend and operate highly technical skills related to being a mechanic.
- Computer Skills – Knowledge of basic computing skills and mobile technology including iPads. Ability to input information to programs accurately and timely.
- Adaptability – Adapts to changes in the work environment and competing demands; changes method to best fit situation; handles multiple projects simultaneously.
- Professionalism - Maintains confidentiality with tact and diplomacy; carries out a variety of tasks with accuracy and attention to detail; refrains from causing or contributing to disruptions in the workplace.
