The Registered Nurse assumes principal responsibility for total care of assigned clients in the respective unit. This nurse is responsible for assessment, reassessment, establishing nursing diagnoses, formulating the written plan of care, and evaluating care. The nurse initiates health care training and education to the client/family as required while supporting the goals of Vaughan Regional Medical Center and the Department of Nursing.

The RN provides leadership and direction to other team members to maintain optimal nursing care and supervises other licensed and non-licensed personnel. Flexibility in scheduling is required to work all shift patterns including weekends and holidays to ensure continuity of care and appropriate nursing coverage for all units. The RN provides care to patients across age groups with consideration to age specificity and diagnosis.

• Provide total care for assigned clients in the unit, including assessment, reassessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of care.
• Initiate health care training and education for clients and families as required.
• Demonstrate leadership and direction to the care team; supervise licensed and non-licensed personnel.
• Ensure continuous coverage by working flexible schedules, including weekends and holidays.
• Maintain patient care that aligns with unit goals and hospital standards.

• Education: Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Alabama; required certifications include BLS, ACLS, and NRP.
• Experience: Previous experience in an acute care hospital setting or obstetric nursing preferred. Completion of orientation checklist and unit-specific competency requirements for identified age groups of patients.
• Skills: Ability to function in stressful situations; strong verbal communication; accountability for prescribing, delegating, and coordinating nursing care with leadership. Proficient in the nursing process (assessment, reassessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, evaluation) tailored to patient age and diagnosis.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to stand for prolonged periods, walk frequently, perform repetitive tasks, manual dexterity, color distinction, and good eye/hand/foot coordination. Ability to lift/carry up to 20 lbs, frequent bending and squatting. Be able to hear alarms and telephone rings and maintain clear vision at distance with or without corrective devices.
