Position Overview / DutiesThis is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD, Section 9905 to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. Applications must be submitted after 12:01 AM (EST) of the posted Job Posting Open Date and before 11:59 PM (EST) of the posted Job Posting Close Date to receive consideration.
Serves as Power Plant Shift Operator in charge of a shift with full responsibility for operation of a power production facility which may consist of one or more powerhouses, switchyards, dams, and related works.
The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the power plant(s), dam(s) and related equipment. Responsible for the safe and proper operation of the power-plant, switchyard, and associated water control structures. Serves as sole contact for project safety and security; and is responsible for on-the-spot decisions concerning the operation of these facilities.
The incumbent coordinates operation of plants and dams to satisfy flood control, stream flow, power contract commitments, and other requirements. Compiles river stage and rainfall data and reports this data to the district office daily. Reports river stages more often during flood periods to various state and Federal agencies.
Other Conditions And Requirements- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, are required to register for Selective Service prior to appointment.

- Condition of Employment. The employee is subject to random drug testing. - This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
- A trial or probationary period may be required.
- Must be able to perform common duties of operating a hydroelectric power plant under normal and abnormal conditions issuing safe clearance for hydroelectric power plant equipment.
- Must be able to operate flood control facilities to reduce flood risk.
- This position requires the incumbent to work rotating 12-hour shifts, nights, weekends, and holidays.
- This position requires a pre-employment physical examination and an annual examination.
- This position requires that the incumbent possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.
- Hiring incentives such as a recruitment/relocation bonus, service credit for leave, and student loan repayment may be authorized (subject to available budget).
- Relocation (PCS) expenses may be authorized (subject to available budget) if the selecting official determines the relocation is the best interests of the government.
