Support Workers - Selby

We are looking for Support Workers to join our service in Selby on a permanent, part-time basis (16 hours). This role requires you to be a driver and hold a full UK driving licence.

We are looking to grow our team of dedicated, caring and enthusiastic support workers. You will be working with a diverse group of people, each with their own unique abilities and needs. You will be expected to provide an outstanding level of support to help the people we support live a happy life. You will have excellent communication skills and a naturally caring and patient personality.

Typical

Responsibilities
  • Supporting people to live independently, including budget management, paying bills, housework, organising appointments, and cooking healthy meals.
  • Using excellent communication skills to build relationships, support people to understand the world around them and promote positive relationships.
  • Community & Social Inclusion – supporting individuals to access and participate in their local community and social events to promote life skills and individuality.
  • Personal care – helping people to get ready for the day, including prompting to take medication and assisting with bathing, showering and using the bathroom. Not all Support Worker roles include high levels of personal care.
What We’re Looking For
  • A genuine passion for supporting others.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build meaningful relationships.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • A positive and empathetic attitude towards individuals with learning disabilities.
  • Drivers are essential for this service.
  • Experience with in the care sector is an advantage but not a necessity as full training will be provided.

Shifts will be spread across mornings, afternoons, evenings, weekends and bank holidays so flexibility is key. Certain services may also have sleep‑in shifts or waking night shifts. Rotas are prepared at least 4 weeks in advance to help you plan your personal and social life.

This position does not meet the minimum salary requirements for a Health and Care visa under the UK Skilled Worker route. Therefore, although Mencap is a licensed sponsor, we are unable to offer sponsorship for this role. Applicants must already have the legal right to work in the UK, as we are not able to support new visa applications or sponsorship requests for this vacancy.

All roles are subject to an enhanced DBS check and suitable references.
