Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) will work within the Therapeutic Respite Program for Youth, which provides therapeutic respite services in a 10-bed unit to children and youth between the ages of 5 and 17 years old. This RN will be supervised and directed by the Director of Residential Nursing and Program Director. The RN will work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team to support children who are at risk of crisis but do not meet the criteria for hospitalization.
Nursing will be provided around the clock and with the assistance of support staff who work alongside the team.
This Nursing position performs responsible nursing work in the assigned location. This position is responsible for the care and treatment of individuals in accordance with accepted professional, legal and ethical nursing standards.
ResponsibilitiesPrimary responsibilities include medication monitoring and administration, individual assessments, laboratory collections and interpretation of lab results, and individual and family education regarding medications, health and nutrition, mental illness, and substance use, all under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. This position may also be responsible for giving injections, administering urine drug screens, and pregnancy tests as ordered. The RN is responsible for adhering to all agency policies and procedures.
This nurse must possess an ability to work within a multi-disciplinary team and have excellent communication skills.
- 1.00/hour – Psych Certification
- .75/hour – Bilingual
- Up to 3.50/hour – Previous crisis experience
- Up to 2.00/hour – Previous community center experience
- Up to 5.00/hour – tenure with BTCS
- Shift Differentials:
- $2.00/hour Evening
- $4.00/hour Overnight

QualificationsMinimum Qualifications:
1) Graduated from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas with at least 1 year of recent nursing experience.
2) Ability to work collaboratively and be part of a multidisciplinary professional team.
3) Computer literate with working knowledge of Windows/MS Office applications.
4) Excellent written and oral communication skills.
5) Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and maintain approved driving status throughout employment.
Preferred Qualifications:
1) Experience working with children in psychiatric settings, with individuals with developmental disabilities, substance use disorders, and/or primary care.
2) Bilingual in Spanish.
