Internship
Summary:
The Industrial Power Systems Division has an exciting two-year internship opportunity for the Texas FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician (AMT) program beginning July 2026, in the Seguin, Schertz, and San Antonio, Texas facilities.
The TX FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technology (AMT) is a five-semester, Department of Labor recognized apprenticeship program. Interns earn their Associate of Applied Science in AMT which combines proven workplace components with the earn-and-learn model.
This position is a part-time paid internship where the intern will be assigned to a three-day work week at our facility and attend the TX FAST college program two days a week.
In this role you will learn the necessary skills of a manufacturing maintenance technician and will develop working knowledge of mechanical theory, HVAC, robotics, automation, machining and LOTO and OSHA regulations. After successfully completing the two-year internship, you will have the opportunity to become a full-time Caterpillar Maintenance Technician employee, propelling your career and experience in the assistance of building diesel engines!
What you will learn to do:
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on assembly equipment, in accordance with work orders and technical documentation under the support and guidance of supervision
- Respond to service requests and work orders with supervision and direction
- Use CMMS-generated preventive maintenance worksheets to maintain production facility's machinery and equipment according to the manufacturer's recommendations
- Perform general building maintenance such as lamp replacement, simple construction, repairing overhead doors, and plumbing
- Perform basic electrical preventive maintenance, to motors, lights, and electrical panels with direct supervision
- Learn to operate and to maintain equipment such as fork trucks, conveyors, robotic equipment, and related tools and equipment
- Lubricate production and material handling equipment in accordance with preventive maintenance schedules
- Organize lubrication equipment and learn how to recommend changes to lubrication schedules
- Submit tools/requisitions for lubrication equipment to the appropriate supervisor
- Develop a strong electrical and mechanical fundamental knowledge
- Learn to submit and to assist with the resolution of C.P.S. Continuous Improvement cards
- Practice the manufacturing core exercises to develop critical thinking and continuous improvement.

- Basic understanding of the necessary skills required to operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a manufacturing facility
- Proficient critical thinking skills
- Good communication skills
- Working knowledge of the proper use of safety equipment
- Successful completion of STEM coursework
- Perform preventive maintenance for assembly and material-handling equipment
- General understanding of robotics technology and related systems
- Understanding of lockout / tagout procedures
- Experience with basic hand and power tools in an industrial setting
- Strong understanding of mechanical theory, including the construction and operation of bearings, hydraulics, pneumatics, and conveyors
- Mechanical knowledge of basic machines (pulleys, levers, etc.), pneumatics, hydraulics, gears, reducers, bearings, lubrication theory, drive components (sheaves, sprockets, chain belts, take-ups), and equipment alignment
- Knowledge of all phases of cutting and welding
- Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods
- Ability to perform repetitive operations
- Ability to lift up to 35 lbs.
