Purpose and Scope
Supports FMCNA’s mission, vision, and core values and delivers customer service philosophy. Adheres to the FMCNA Compliance Program, including all regulatory and company policy requirements. Functions as part of the hemodialysis health‑care team to provide safe and effective dialysis therapy for assigned patients under the direct supervision of a registered nurse. Participates in patient‑care implementation, evaluation, documentation, and incident reporting.
Duties / Activities
Customer Service
- Drive FMCNA culture through values and customer‑service standards.
- Provide outstanding service to all external and internal customers.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships through timely communication.
- Take initiative to respond, resolve, and follow up on customer‑service issues promptly.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties
Patient Related
- Provide direct patient care for assigned patient(s).
- Perform all technical aspects of dialysis procedures as prescribed and monitor treatments.
- Monitor and document dialysis treatment parameters on flow sheets and patient records.
- Report significant information, changes in patient condition, or equipment problems to the supervisor.
- Assist in developing and following teaching plans to educate patients and families about end‑stage renal disease, dialysis therapy, diet, and medications.
- Assist with emergency operational procedures.
- Administer intravenous medication per physician orders and state nurse practice laws.
- Perform and document pre‑, interim, and post‑treatment review of patient condition.
- Initiate basic CPR measures in the event of cardiac and/or pulmonary arrest and respond to emergency dialysis situations.
Technical
- Safely operate all dialysis‑related equipment according to proper procedures.
- Provide minor troubleshooting when necessary.
- Ensure a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in the dialysis facility treatment area.
- Address blood spills immediately per FMCNA Bloodborne Pathogen Control Policies.
- Operate all emergency equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Staff Related
- Participate in staff meetings as scheduled.
- Assist in short‑term and long‑term patient‑care plan meetings.
- Acquire current knowledge of dialysis principles and techniques through scheduled in‑service classes.
- Act as a resource for other staff members and coordinate care plans with Physician, Dietitian, and Social Worker.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
Desk and personal‑computer work. Direct patient care involves heavy lifting and moving of patients, assistance with ambulation, frequent prolonged standing, bending, and occasional lifting of machines or equipment up to 200 lbs.
