Overview

Consumer Benefits Specialist - Regional at Bluebonnet Trails Community Services helps consumers determine eligibility for Medicaid benefits and entitlements, assists with SSI/SSDI applications, referrals to vendors, and supports appeals and hearings. Provides renewal assistance for Medicaid programs such as QMB and MQMB. Conducts community referrals and trainings as needed. Position serves in a regional capacity across Seguin, Gonzales, and Lockhart, TX, working with multiple locations and referral vendors.

Responsibilities
  • Assist consumers with determining eligibility for, access to, and maintenance of Medicaid benefits and entitlements
  • Meet with consumers to assist with SSI/SSDI applications, referrals, and follow-up, including referrals for benefits, initial applications, administrative law judge hearings, claims, and appeals
  • Provide community referrals and representation during administrative law judge hearings in a court setting
  • Assist with benefit renewals and maintenance of eligibility for Medicaid programs (QMB, MQMB, and waivers)
  • Make social service referrals as needed (e.g., SNAP/food stamps, TANF, Medicare Extra Help)
  • Serve as presenter or designee on benefits training across programs and departments
  • Collaborate with referral vendors as primary contact in a regional capacity

Seguin, Gonzales and Lockhart, TX

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a Human Services field; or if degree is not in Human Services, a minimum of 24 credits in a human services field
  • Applicable experience may substitute for a Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and Social Security applications
  • Experience working with persons with disabilities in a healthcare or rehab setting
  • Strong computer and communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a team to support the benefits needs of persons served
  • Must have a valid Texas driver's license and maintain approved driver's status
