Salary

This is a full-time, twelve (12) month position at 232 days with a salary range from $67,158 - 83,528. This is a grant-funded position and continued employment is contingent upon grant renewal.

Job Summary (Primary Purpose)

Support districts, campuses, and educators by providing professional development, technical assistance, and record keeping related to implementation of the Texas Education Agency’s Civics Curriculum for K-12 Texas teachers and administrators.

Required Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Education/Certificates)
  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • Valid Texas Teacher Certification in Core EC‑6, and/or Social Studies 4‑8
  • Three (3) years of teaching experience in Social Studies
  • Thorough knowledge of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) in Social Studies
Preferred Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills & Education/Certificates)
  • Master’s degree in education or related field
  • English as a Second Language certification
  • Experience as team or content lead within a district setting
  • Experience in instructional coaching, general or Social Studies‑specific
  • Experience with facilitating, and/or presenting professional learning for adults
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of vertical and horizontal alignment and understanding of the continuum of the skills and processes of social studies Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills within and across grade levels
  • Leadership within Professional Learning Communities
  • Designing and facilitating participant‑focused, timely, relevant, and personalized professional development
  • Delivering and implementing curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Working knowledge of current curriculum trends, instruction, technology, and school systems
  • Working knowledge of best practices in English as a Second Language (e.g., Sheltered Instruction) and English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS)
  • Working knowledge of data‑driven strategies for improving student performance
  • Professional communication with stakeholders and clients
  • Self‑starter capable of managing priorities, completing work independently, and maintaining timely communication
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills; ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of platforms such as Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and virtual learning platforms

Job Responsibilities /Essential Functions
  • Serve as a representative of ESC Region 13, displaying courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the educational community and with the public
  • Stay current with trends and research in coaching, pedagogy, content, and TEKS, and apply that knowledge in a client‑centered way
  • Deliver Texas Education Agency’s Civics Curriculum for K‑12 Texas teachers and administrators that will include the following areas:
    • Social studies essential knowledge and skills related to civic knowledge
    • Guided classroom discussions of current events
    • Classroom simulations and models of governmental and democratic processes
    • Media literacy skills for evaluating online information
    • Strategies for incorporating civics instruction into subject areas other than social studies
  • Facilitate the teaching of civics curriculum by providing civics training to K‑12 Texas teachers and administrators in the following areas:
    • Social studies essential knowledge and skills related to civic knowledge
    • Guided classroom discussions of current events
    • Classroom simulations and models of governmental and democratic processes
    • Media literacy skills for evaluating online information
    • Strategies for incorporating civics instruction into subject areas other than social studies
  • Support districts, campuses, and educators by providing technical assistance, and record keeping related to implementation of the Texas Education Agency’s Civics Curriculum for K‑12 Texas teachers and administrators
