Overview

Position Type:
Seasonal / Camp Coordinator

Location:

City of Seguin

Scheduled hours will vary throughout the summer depending on participant enrollment and program needs. Schedule is 5 days per week, 8 hours per day. Camp hours are 7:30am-5:30pm, Monday-Friday.

Summary:

Oversees the development, implementation, promotion, and evaluation of the ‘Just for Kids' Summer Day Camp program in accordance with the mission and goals of the City of Seguin Parks and Recreation Department.

Essential Duties / Responsibilities
  • In cooperation with the Recreation Superintendent, responsible for the planning and implementation of day-to-day programming, special camp-wide theme programs and special events for the ‘Just for Kids' Camp Program.

  • Plan, attend, implement, and participate in employee orientation and all scheduled staff/planning meetings.

  • Provide strong leadership and supervision for staff.

  • Takes daily attendance and ensures that all campers are always accounted for.

  • Maintain a staff to student ratio of 1 to 12. Responsible for sending staff home if numbers are low.

  • Direct activity schedule for each session.

  • Assign activity leaders based on their strengths and talents.

  • Prepare materials for activities.

  • Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring the timely arrival of materials.

  • Coordinate and supervise all field trips.

  • Responsible for handling discipline problems in accordance with the program's behavior management policy.

  • Review participant's progress / difficult behavior and respond promptly to child, parent and staff concerns.

  • Promptly inform the Recreation Superintendent of any re-occurring camper behavior problems that may warrant suspension or dismissal from the program or of any camp or staff concerns.

  • Ensure the safety of the campers, staff and activities at all times.

  • Tend to and document first-aid injuries.

  • Maintain a positive relationship with campers, parents, staff and supervisors at all times.

  • Ensure that accurate camp records are kept for personnel, participation attendance, purchasing and inventory.

  • Assist with setting up and taking down of equipment for all activities and responsible for the security and neat storage of all equipment and supplies.

  • Responsible for cleaning up after meals, snacks, crafting, or any activities that are messy.

  • Ensures program facility is left in appropriate condition prior to leaving for the day.

  • Works in designated areas indoors and outdoors.

  • Actively participate in all camp activities including dress up days, performances, singing, dancing, swimming, wading, running and walking from place to place.

  • Assist in leading daily camp opening and closing ceremonies.

  • Assist in packing all materials and supplies at the end of the season.

  • Assist in post camp evaluation of program and staff at the end of the season that summarizes the camp season and makes recommendations for next season.

  • Any additional task and/or duties as deemed necessary and assigned by the Recreation Superintendent, Program Assistant, or Parks and Recreation Assistant Director.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Must have the ability to teach, supervise and motivate children and adults, creatively schedule programs, show interest and enthusiasm, and have the knowledge and skills in a variety of camp program areas.

Must be at least 18 years of age.

Must be able to make decisions requiring mature judgment and provide leadership and direction to the Camp Program.

Ability to lift 25 pounds.

Acceptable Experience and Training

Must have a high school diploma or GED or five years' experience working with youth in summer / after school programs or in youth development.

Certificates and Licenses Required

Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.

Must obtain CPR & First Aid certification prior to the start of the youth summer camp program.
