Overview
JOB SUMMARY:
The Respiratory Care Student Assistant is an allied health care worker who functions under the supervision of a Respiratory Therapy Director and works under the direction of the team leader. This individual is responsible for clerical, equipment cleaning, equipment preparation, charge processing, filing duties of the department and performing electro-cardiograms and may perform the services of a respiratory care practitioner under direct supervision.
The Respiratory Care Student Assistant reports directly to the Respiratory Therapy Director.
- Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Enrollment in an accredited Respiratory Therapy Program. - Licensure/Certification: BLS certification. Must have a valid, current Missouri Respiratory Care Student Practitioner License.
- Work Experience:
None required but prior health care related work experience desirable.
Job Duties
- Performance of Patient Oxygen/equipment rounds, and Hospital emergency equipment rounds in accordance with Departmental procedures.
- Completion of documentation and charging procedures in accordance with Hospital and Departmental procedures.
- Preparation of medical gases, air/oxygen apparatus, humidification and aerosol administration devices, and ventilatory assistance/control equipment.
- Assistance with cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed.
- Department stock maintenance and area cleaning as assigned.
- Perform Electro-cardiograms.
- May complete unit/department specific duties as assigned and other duties as assigned.
- Perform other duties as required.

- Works indoors in well-lighted and ventilated environment.
