Position: 1-RN / GN Woman’s Health Care –L&D: Day Shift

Job Summary

The RN / GN must have the skill and knowledge to provide population specific care. He/She must have the ability to assess, evaluate, identify, and interpret the requirement and needs of the patients and perform based on those findings. This individual is trained and capable of performing patient care for the age groups newborn to 102 years old. The RN / GN reports directly to Charge Nurse/Team Lead/Manager/Director.

Qualifications
  • Education:

    RN graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    Must have a valid, current license by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification/Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) required.
  • On first year employment: ACLS, S.T.A.B.L.E., Basic and Intermediate Fetal Monitoring, NRP.
  • Work Experience:

    Successful completion of hospital orientation.
Responsibilities/Job Duties

Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team. Hold self and other staff members accountable and responsible for work performance and continuous improvement throughout the hospital. Ensure compliance with professional, regulatory, and government standards of care. Understand and use medical equipment and supplies used in the department. Provide appropriate patient care to all ages, with accountability for care provided by LPNs and CNAs.

Document care accurately in the EMR. Deliver non-biased care to all patients and families. Carry out orders indicated by the physician/care provider or protocol. Scan and administer medications, monitor for side effects. Competently care for medical emergencies. Handle emergency and crisis situations. Protect the medical record and maintain HIPAA compliance. Monitor patient condition changes and notify the physician if appropriate.

Demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the patient populations within the department.

Labor and Delivery

Clean and restock all labor and delivery areas, complete shift checklist, and monthly cleaning log. Prepare patients for all scheduled procedures. Care for antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum patients. Circulate Cesarean Sections. Perform PACU on spinal/epidural anesthesia cesarean patients. Pain management for all patients. Pre-Op patients for cesarean section. Perform both scheduled and unscheduled obstetric triage. Care for postpartum women in the first two periods after delivery.

Educate and coach patients and families. Monitor fetal heart and contractions. Maintain a sterile environment. Completing admission, discharge, and transfer of patients when indicated.

NICU

Clean and restock all NICU and Nursery areas, complete shift checklist, and monthly cleaning log. Provide education for all procedures and obtain consent. Prepare newborns for all procedures and provide care following procedures. Perform all necessary assessments, screenings, and education for newborns during the hospital stay. Caring for all newborns including well newborns and NICU level newborns. Perform any necessary resuscitation or stabilizing interventions when indicated.

Women’s

Health and Newborn Care
  • Clean and prepare all rooms, complete shift checklist, and monthly cleaning log.
  • Care for postpartum women, newborns, GYNs, and medical/surgical overflow patients.
  • Complete admission, discharge, or transfer of patients when indicated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Direct patient contact. Possible exposure to infections, communicable diseases, and blood borne pathogens. Occasionally exposed to radiation and electromechanical hazards. Works indoors in a well-lighted and ventilated environment. Handles emergency or crisis situations. Occasionally subjected to irregular hours. Subjected to frequent interruptions. Complies with ADA guidelines.
