Overview

Job Description The Senior Staff MFG IT Systems Engineer will be responsible for the ZT Systems manufacturing environment, including virtualization using VMware vCenter and related features, with strong skills across Microsoft and open-source technologies, focusing on Linux. They will manage on‑prem infrastructure such as virtualization and storage and use automation for day-to-day support and issue resolution. As the Senior Staff MFG IT Systems Engineer team lead, you will design, implement, and manage applications on Linux and Windows, understand business needs, and propose technology solutions that address those requirements.

A solid understanding of modern networking fundamentals related to Microsoft enterprise networks is required, including TCP/IP, DNS, SSH/RDP, DHCP, ARP, SMB/CIFS/NFS, and DFS, as well as disaster recovery, high availability, and backup technology and procedures for Windows/Linux Server-based products.

What You Will Do:

• Architect, implement, and maintain highly available Linux/Windows server platforms across on‑prem and cloud (hybrid) environments.
• Manage and optimize hypervisors (e.g., VMware, Hyper‑V, KVM) and enterprise storage platforms (SAN/NAS/object) for performance, resilience, and cost.
• Design and operate Hashi Corp Consul (service discovery/mesh), Nomad (workload orchestration), Vault (secrets management/PKI), and Boundary (secure access) in production.
• Standardize and scale configuration management with Ansible and infrastructure provisioning with Terraform (modules, work spaces, policy as code).
• Build automation and tooling in Python (and Bash/Power Shell where appropriate) to reduce toil, integrate APIs, and improve observability.
• Create/Update/Implement scripts for Linux, Windows, and Ansible Playbooks with a focus on Python and YAML.
• Participate in projects and engineer new systems; collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve and develop business processes and systems.
• Plan server migration and deployment projects. As an IT and Systems team member, you may be asked to take on additional tasks and responsibilities as new business needs arise.
• Monitor performance of critical servers and applications; manage load configuration and make recommendations for hardware purchases or upgrades and software tuning.
• Engage and manage 3rd-party vendors to achieve expedient resolution.
• Create and maintain system documentation for specifications, designs, procedures, and logs; document all processes, system changes/fixes, and issues.

What You Bring:

• Bachelor’s degree (Computer Science preferred) with 8+ years of system engineering experience in an enterprise-level, highly integrated IT environment (alternatively an MS degree with 6+ years of experience).
• Working knowledge of Public Cloud-based solutions and APIs.
• 8+ years of Linux experience.
• 8+ years VMware/virtual server experience with working knowledge of vSphere, vMotion, and VMware management.
• Knowledge of API and API development.
• 4+ years of Dev Ops experience.
• Working proficiency in Python.
• 4+ years of Ansible experience.
• 4+ years of enterprise storage experience with NFS/SMB/CIFS and storage solutions including, but not limited to, QNAP, Pure, HPE, Net App.
• Advanced knowledge of Active Directory architecture and support, including Group Policy, Replication, DNS, and User/Group Management.
• Understanding of Information Security best practices.
• Ability to produce and adhere to documentation – Visio, runbooks, project plans, root cause analysis.
• Strong documentation and communication skills applicable to a customer service role.

ZT Systems assesses market data to ensure a competitive compensation package. The typical base salary for this position is expected to be between $124,500 and $166,000 per year. The final base salary will be determined on an individual basis considering experience, skills, knowledge, education and/or certifications. Base salary is one component of ZT Systems total rewards, which may include bonus, paid time off, a 401(k) match, tuition reimbursement, wellbeing resources, and more.
