What You Will Be DoingJoin the Team that Power’s Alaska’s Digital Backbone! The Office of Information Technology (OIT) presents a rare opportunity to join the Datacenter Server Patching and Management Team for a dedicated individual to help maintain and enhance Alaska’s enterprise systems. The position is flexibly staffed — whether you’re starting fresh or bringing existing expertise, a structured training and development plan will help you advance to a journeyman‑level role.
Typical day:
- Verify that servers performed expected tasks during the maintenance window.
- Check enterprise systems to proactively catch issues before they propagate.
- Investigate operational or security issues.
- Create scripts and automation to complete work that is “outside the box” of existing enterprise systems.
- Provide insight and guidance for the team to focus on problem areas.
As you develop your skills, you will have the chance to expand responsibilities and work on larger, more complex issues, such as troubleshooting web services, managing certificates, fine‑tuning Active Directory, and exploring virtualization management as systems move into the cloud.

The Working Environment You Can ExpectWhile the OIT offices are primarily located in downtown Juneau, 5th Floor State Office Building and in downtown Anchorage, at the Bayview Building on Ship Creek Ave, this position is suitable for up to 100% in‑state telework if all job duties can be met. Telework will be the primary social environment, but regular attendance at daily/weekly meetings will be essential.
Who We Are Looking ForWe seek candidates possessing some or all of the following competencies:
- Computer skills: use computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.
- Problem solving: identify and analyze problems, evaluate alternative solutions, and make recommendations.
- Written communication: write in a clear, concise, organized, and convincing manner for the intended audience.
Minimum qualifications include relevant education and/or experience that demonstrates competence in hardware, infrastructure design, operating systems, and systems integration. For senior roles, additional competency areas include systems testing and evaluation.
