An exciting opportunity is available for a motivated park service professional to fill the position of Assistant Park Manager at Highlands Hammock State Park.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Compliance with the processing requirements of Chapter 215.422, F.S. is mandatory. Persistent failure to comply constitutes good cause for discharge of employees found responsible.

Administration – Participates in employee training, supervision, discipline, maintains good employee relations; supervises staff in fiscal and purchasing procedures and policies; ensures property procedures and policies are applied; coordinates work schedules and assignments; checks reports, fee collection and miscellaneous records prepared by staff.

Visitor Services – Coordinates interpretive programs, activities, events and schedules for the park; meets the public, interprets resources, facilities and services, resolves problems, and provides good public relations; supervises staff in providing visitor services.

Resource Management – Supervision of resource management programs including ecological burning, water level management, native species propagation, erosion control and exotic removal.

Maintenance – Identifies maintenance needs through daily inspections; maintains maintenance schedules and supervises staff; ensures maintenance of buildings, roads, bridges, trails, water systems, wastewater systems, vehicles, equipment, etc.

Protection – Ensures park rules are enforced; promotes safety throughout the park, ensures equipment and facilities are safe, and provides guidance to staff on safety practices.

Other – Performs other related duties as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

Knowledge of management principles, Florida ecosystems and resource management techniques, building maintenance and construction (including ADA compliance), vehicle operation, heavy equipment, power tools, computers, hardware, software and basic arithmetic.

Skilled in operating a range of vehicles, power and hand tools, computers and various software programs.

Ability to supervise people, maintain effective working relationships, prepare and maintain staff schedules, provide leadership and training for career service, OPS, volunteer and Ameri Corps staff, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, complete reports and maintain records, conduct trainings, meetings, interpretive programs and orientations, provide good public relations, conduct inspections of park facilities, vehicles and equipment, participate in maintenance and resource management activities, work rotating schedules (days, nights, weekends, holidays), reside on park property in a 3-bedroom/1.5-bath house, maintain a valid driver’s license, and successfully complete background and fingerprint checks.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATION POSITION OF SPECIAL TRUST REQUIREMENT

This position is designated as a Position of Special Trust in accordance with DEP Directive 422, Positions of Special Trust or Responsibility. Successful completion of background screening is required.

$3,740.67 month / $44,888.08 annual

Highlands Hammock totals over 9,000 acres. The park is located in South Central Florida in Sebring and includes Lake June in Winter Scrub Preserve State Park and Seven Lakes Day Use Area. Recreational uses include hiking, birding, camping, biking, walking, interpretive education, 5k runs/walks, and a signature CCC festival.
